LuandaLuanda is the largest city and capital of Angola, and also the capital of the homonymous province. Located on the Atlantic Ocean, is the main port and administrative center of Angola. It has a population of approximately 4.5 million (2004 UN estimates), making it the third largest city of the Lusophone world, behind São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.The industries presence in the city includes the processing of agricultural products, beverages production, textiles, cement and other building materials, plastics, metals, cigarettes, and shoes. The oil extracted nearby is refined in the city, although this facility has been repeatedly damaged during the civil war. Luanda has an excellent natural harbor and the main exports are coffee, cotton, sugar, diamonds, iron and salt.The inhabitants of Luanda are primarily members of African ethnic groups, including Ovimbundu, Kimbundu and Bakongo. There is a small minority of European origin. The official language and most spoken language is Portuguese although is also spoken several languages of the Bantu group.
